Puerto del Carmen is Lanzarote’s busiest and largest resort. The old fishing village died in the 1960s when hoteliers grabbed the opportunity to accommodate tourists from Northern Europe who sought a sunny climate and golden beaches.
Here are the main reasons for me returning to Puerto del Carmen year after year:
1. Walking along the strip
The walk along the strip is a favorite pastime. The feel and buzz going on as you travel through the resort at any time is truly memorable. The amount of choice is immense and to watch the happiness as it goes on around you is very special indeed.
2. Honey rum
The Ron Miel (honey rum) served after a meal or as a shot between drinks is absolutely my best drink on the island. I always save a space in my suitcase to bring home a bottle of this Lanzarote delight. All grapes are grown on the island and with a sweet, easy tasting finish; this is my top tasting tip for while you are on your holiday.
3. The people of Lanzarote
The people of Lanzarote are always friendly and helpful. This will be first apparent if you use a taxi or ask for assistance at the airport. Always accommodating and seeming to be cheerful and relaxed Canarian people are amongst the many reasons Lanzarote is a top holiday resort.
4. The views in the resort
Wherever you look there is a wonderful view. If you are swimming in the sea, relaxing on a beach, sitting in a bar, walking up the road or on top of a volcano, the views are unsurpassed. There is no hiding from a scenic view wherever you look. Just raw natural beauty.
No wonder I travel back every year, huh? If you visit the resort in January you’ll find me walking on the strip in my pink sun hat. Feel free to greet me!
